THE EXCLUSIVE PUBLISHING HOUSE

OF COLORADO AUTHOR VIOLET LEE HUNT

THANK YOU FOR VISITING MY WEBSITE. I am a self-published author, specializing in works of both fiction and nonfiction. My work ranges from short story collections to romance novellas to personal memoir.

A few years ago, nearing retirement and traveling on business, I found myself with pencil in hand sitting on an airplane and sketching out a short story, completely fiction and fun to write. That was my first book Lavender Muse, a story about women helped by strangers. That led to the next, Patterns of Deceit, a book of fiction about lessons learned from unresolved love, quickly followed by a fantasy romance full of excitement and surprise, Injured Cougar. The last of this grouping of short stories, Cottage in the Clouds, is perhaps my most personal writing to date—a heartfelt true story of two senior women striving for a new life in the Rocky Mountains of Estes Park, Colorado.

Because these four novellas were well-received, I felt courageous enough to write two historical, non-fiction memoirs—Notes from the Past and Growing Up on Concord—one from the perspective of my paternal ancestors and one from the maternal. Both books are about a Boulder, Colorado, family living from the mid-1800s to the mid-1900s and detail how Boulder has changed along with its people. There are fascinating details told in each book that has surprised seasoned Boulder old-timers. These “book-end books” provide the foundation and walls for all my inspiration and words.

Notes from the Past is the story of my father’s family and describes at a granular level the lives of hard-rock, silver miners and their families, working long lives in the Rocky Mountains, through much danger, disaster, promise and prosperity. Growing Up on Concord is a story of my mother’s family, told by children growing up in Boulder during World War Two, mostly left to their own devices, doing their best to cope in a relentlessly changing world that was mysterious and mystifying.

“Violet Lee Hunt’s writing is so very much influenced by the style of films and her family discussions of them. ... it’s almost like reading a film script where the characters and setting are outlined and then the actions and dialogue unfold paragraph by paragraph, scene by scene.”
